Welcome to Diegueno Surf Team 2023/24 season.The team will compete in the Scholastic Surf Series in the San Diego Middle School Division 1 and the State Middle School Championships. Students in the 6th-8th grade may participate on the surf team to compete or just improve their surfing skills. Male & female students can compete in Shortboard, Longboard and Bodyboard.
Practice:
Our practices are on Wednesdays from 3:15-5:00pm at Grandview in Leucadia. Season begins late August and ends early May. There will also be a swim test that students must pass in order to participate. Students will not be permitted to participate if completed forms and team fees have not been received (see below).
*Returning surfers will have priority. If we exceed 30 surfers we will have tryouts at the first practice to determine the remainder of the team.
Surf Contests:
5 regular season team competitions are scheduled on Saturday mornings beginning in October and ending around April; State competition is typically scheduled for end of April/May. Visit www.surfsss.org for more info on rules, contest locations and results. If your grom wants to enter State Champs it’s an additional $70 per rider due prior to the contest. Scholastic Surf Series contest days & team practices are subject to change & cancellations due to rain, water quality, holidays, poor & dangerous surf conditions.
Note: DNO Surf Team Competitors must maintain a 2.0 GPA to compete.Competitions are all optional.The competition roster will be selected by the coach and is based on attitude, attendance & ability!
* Not all surfers will compete in every contest.
Register Your DNO Surfer:
- Go to SurfSSS.org and “create an account” your surfer under the Diegueno Middle School Surf team tab
- Register and pay the team fee (typically $300-$315), which covers membership, surf contests, coaching fees, team hoodies/t-shirts, parties and several activities throughout the school year!
- Online registration and payment must be received BY mid-Sept!
