Brett Reisdorf brings a unique blend of surf experience, coaching, and community leadership to the Diegueno Middle School Surf Team. Born and raised in South Africa, Brett has spent more than 25 years immersed in surf travel and adventure around the world. Now based in Solana Beach with his wife Jessie and their two children, Reon and Lyla, Brett has made the local coastline both his home and his classroom.

Brett’s coaching style draws on his deep knowledge of surfing fundamentals, ocean safety, and breathwork training. In addition to running SeaO₂, a surf and breath collective based in Del Mar, he works with athletes, surfers, fighters, and young groms to build confidence, resilience, and awareness both in and out of the water. His approach emphasizes not just performance, but also mindfulness — helping students learn skills they can carry into every part of their lives.

Beyond the surf, Brett is also a designer and public artist, creating large-scale projects that connect people to place. Together with Jessie, the Reisdorfs are deeply involved in their community and committed to creating positive experiences for young people.

As head coach of the Diegueno Surf Team, Brett’s goal is to foster a supportive, challenging, and fun environment where every student can progress, build lasting friendships, and develop a lifelong connection to the ocean.

I have a lot to offer to the surf team at Diegueno. My knowledge of body mechanics has been my primary focus on developing and improving all of the kinesthetics movements we take for granted as surfers to execute our maneuvers. My goal is to introduce applications that not only initially develop all of the maneuvers involved with surfing, but these applications will be essential tools that will continue to improve those maneuvers above and beyond.
