Brad Hagglund
Name one person you look up to growing up and why.
I look up to my parents. They have been together for over 30 years and have been a constant source of support my entire life. Not sure where I would be without them!
What super power would you choose and why?
Flight! Having the power to fly and surf any swell in the world? YES PLEASE!
Where did you grow up? And what’s your best memory of growing up there?
I grew up in Encinitas. Best part about growing up here is the community. Being able to go surf any time of day at any break and see close friends is something very special to me.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
Surfing big ‘Super Suck’ in Indonesia. Northing scarier than taking off backside and seeing the razor sharp bottom!
Favorite part about being on the DNO Surf Team.
Being able to give back to the team that gave me so much. Go DNO SURF!
Hello All! My name is Brad Hagglund and I will be the surf coach for Diegueno during the 2018/2019 school year. I am so excited to begin working with everyone. I was a student at Diegueno and member of the surf team, so this is going to be extra special for me.
From Diegueno I went on to San Dieguito Academy where we won multiple national championships in both the NSSA and Red Bull Highschool Cup. During that time I also completed individually in the NSSA as well select Pro Jr and WQS events where I saw some success. I realized however that I was not good enough to be the best so I decided to attend the University of California Santa Cruz. At UCSC I received Bachelor’s degrees in both Cultural Anthropology and History.
I graduated from UCSC in 2012 and decided I needed to live abroad. I bounced around Bali and Australia, where I worked odd jobs to live the dream and surf the best waves in the world! After 2 years of nomading I decided it was time to come home and pursue my dream in becoming a History teacher. I received my credential from California State University San Marcos and was offered my first full time teaching job in 2015. I am currently at Del Dios Academy of Arts and Sciences in Escondido where I teach 7th and 8th Grade Social Studies.
